Solar Eclipse in Leo, 12 August 2026: the hour of revelation and release

Some eclipses come to take something away from you. Others come to give it back. This one belongs firmly in the second category.

On 12 August 2026 we have a total Solar Eclipse in the sign of Leo, and I want to say this plainly from the very start, because I know that the moment people hear the word eclipse their throat tightens. This is not a bad eclipse. This is not an eclipse of punishment. It is one of the most constructive eclipses we have seen in a long while, at least where our personal lives are concerned.

It is an eclipse that gives courage. It gives strength. It gives effectiveness. Above all it gives an opening to the many people who have been worn down, pressured and cornered, to finally get back on their feet. If you are going through a genuinely difficult stretch right now, this is the period you have been waiting for.

Who is actually affected by the Solar Eclipse in Leo

The eclipse falls on the 21st degree of Leo. That means it directly activates degrees 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio. In practical terms we are looking at the end of the second decan and the beginning of the third decan of those four signs.

Here is the part most people never factor in. On 12 August the 12th harmonic is also activated. From 21 degrees of Leo we move to 21 of Virgo and we still have another nine to go, which brings us to the 6th degree of the cardinal signs. So degrees 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn are pulled in at the same time.

If you have planets in those degrees, or if your Ascendant and Midheaven land there, you have a great deal to handle over this period. And to be as clear as I can: the Ascendant always carries the most weight. For a day birth we read the Sun first, for a night birth the Moon first, but the Ascendant remains the single most important point in your chart.

How long the influence lasts

This particular eclipse influences us for two months and ten days. Its effect closes on 22 October 2026. Keep in mind, though, that a week earlier, around 5 August, we already begin to feel it.

So from 5 August through to 22 October we are inside a window of almost two and a half months. That is not a small thing. It is more than enough time to act, to close matters, to start something new. Do not sit waiting for everything to happen on 12 August and then conclude that nothing did.

The aspects: what flows and what needs care

The hardest element of this eclipse is the square between Mars and Neptune. Historically this is an aspect that brings infection, water contamination, illness themes, and generally complicates anything to do with health. Wherever health authorities are involved, in various countries around the world, we may see problems or difficult situations surface.

That square is intensified further because Mars sits at the first degree of Cancer, which is a genuinely awkward placement. And because Venus joins the picture, a T square forms. This gives the eclipse a distinctly illusory quality in relationships, with strange influences and romances that are not always what they appear to be.

On the other side of the chart we have Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Leo, opposing Pluto, while forming rather positive aspects to Uranus and to Neptune. That is precisely what turns this into an eclipse of significant technological development, with genuinely pleasant events and with solutions that unlock.

Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius, along with Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces of the first decan, should expect meaningful developmental successes. It feels as though new and interesting things are arriving that complete you and help you begin something creative you have been waiting on for some time.

The mystic rectangle hidden inside the eclipse

This is where I want you to pause, because it may be the strongest single feature in the whole chart. A mystic rectangle forms between Pluto with Mercury and Venus with Neptune. The five degree rule applies, of course.

The figure is powerful because outer and inner planets participate together, which means several dynamics are working at once. And once you add Jupiter, sitting beside Mercury, along with Uranus, you can see Uranus activating the entire structure through sextiles and trines.

A mystic rectangle is essentially a rare window in which the right hour and the right moment finally coincide, in a way that feels almost mystical, so that we can feel well and set ourselves free. There will be very large developments for anyone with planets in the first decan of the signs, and particularly for Aquarius, Aries, Leo, Libra and Gemini of the first decan. That is where the most significant revelations and changes take place.

Adding to the strength are the midpoints, with the Uranus and Pluto midpoint especially potent, along with the fixed stars activated on the angles.

Saros cycle 126 and the historical memory of this eclipse

Every eclipse has its own birth chart. It is born at some point in history and from then on it reproduces its cycle roughly every eighteen years. Ours belongs to Saros cycle 126, series 10 South in the Brady system, and it was born on 10 March 1679 in the old calendar.

In the birth chart of that series we find the Sun and Moon squaring Saturn and Pluto, while Mars activates the whole of that heavy framework. There are Chiron and Jupiter themes present as well, and of course Venus with Mars.

What does this tell us? First, that we are dealing with a significant eclipse of relationships. Second, that its historical record unfortunately includes the loss of large numbers of people. So we will see themes of war return. There is passion here, there is deliverance, there is resolution and release, but there is also weight.

Look at those dates carefully. If you were born close to one of them, or if something significant happened in your life on those dates, then you are tuned into this particular cycle and the eclipse will activate matters for you. Also, because the Saros point of this chart falls in Pisces, anyone with planets at 24, 25, 26 and 27 degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces will see events triggered.

We are connected to large cycles nested inside larger cycles. And that is exactly where our meeting with something unexpected, something we could not see coming, takes place.

Where the path of totality runs and why it matters

The path of totality crosses northern Siberia, Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain, northern Portugal and southern France near the Pyrenees. According to the official data, this is the first total solar eclipse visible from mainland Europe since 1999.

Why does this matter to you? Because relocation changes everything. If you have moved to Spain or Iceland and your relocated Ascendant or Midheaven falls on the degrees I mentioned, the influence becomes multidimensional and deserves serious attention. Along the path of an eclipse the effect is always stronger and far more intense.

The mundane picture: here things are not rosy

It would be dishonest to tell you that because the eclipse is kind to our personal lives it is also kind to the world. It is not. Mars and Pluto are both out of bounds, and that is a clear signature of intense themes of violence. There will be pain and grief, and I take no pleasure in writing it.

I have said this in previous broadcasts. Many claimed the war in Ukraine would end quickly. Others now say the Iran situation will be wrapped up shortly. It will not. We are entering, and this is the meaning of the coming years, a phase of long term armed situations that remain permanently unresolved, with chronic disputes driven into deadlock. It is a military overheating of the planet that will burst somewhat later.

So do not expect serious resolutions in world affairs during this window, particularly where the United States is concerned. There are much larger cycles at work and they will have their consequences.

The evolutionary reading: the debt is paid

For those of you who work with evolutionary astrology, this eclipse clears. It allows a genuine new beginning. Read at that level its meaning is very simple and very consoling: you have paid the debt, and now you may move on.

At the level of events it translates into something even simpler. The ordeal is over. You may well have been living in a swamp, and now you finally have the means to move, to act, to see light at the end of the tunnel. This is the right moment to put an end to a situation of toxicity, difficulty and strange reversals.

When eclipses fall on your Nodes they either produce events or they complete a transition already underway, so that the matter closes and you are released. And there is a very deep sense of liberation running through this one.

Forecasts for all 12 signs by decan

One clarification before we begin, because I am asked every time. A pentad is a five day band within a sign. The first and second pentads together make up the first decan. The third and fourth pentads make up the second decan. The fifth and sixth pentads make up the third decan.

Aries

First decan, 21 to 31 March. Opportunity walks into your life and you feel it arrive. You fall in love, you renew yourself, you feel strong, and you have the courage to complete things you have been waiting on for a long time. Expect very enjoyable travel, a great deal of inspiration, a new romance and also partnerships. You will socialise, meet people and form new circles. Make full use of this eclipse, because it is giving you a lot.

Second decan, 1 to 10 April. You are the ones dragging Saturn along behind you, so very little of the above will reach you. You are worn down by responsibilities and obligations, there is a great deal of running around and some difficult events that may push you into a dead end. Handle it carefully. Those of you born on 8, 9 and 10 April, however, do better. You will complete your plans and gain ground in matters of the heart.

Third decan, 11 to 20 April. Those born up to 15 April have serious potential for success. The eclipse arrives to illuminate love, creativity, achievement and progress. From 16 April onwards you will not feel anything particular, since no planetary body is touching you. Only the North Node from Aquarius, which may bring back a friend from the past and a sense of renewal.

Taurus

First decan, 21 April to 1 May. You are laying the foundations of a new professional path. You will feel recognised and successful in your work, with remarkable opportunities in front of you. This is a moment that permits relocation and a wholesale change in the direction of your life. You feel strong, calm and comfortable, and a significant shift is coming where your money is concerned.

Second decan, 2 to 11 May. Relative calm. Saturn is the only planet touching you and it brings responsibilities and obligations in work matters. Protect your psychological wellbeing and look a little more closely at what is going on inside you. Those born from 7 to 10 May can expect a success of a professional nature.

Third decan, 12 to 20 May. The fifth pentad, 11 to 16 May, holds a rare prospect of completion, relocation and professional success.
