Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, 28 August 2026: order comes out of chaos

Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, 28 August 2026: order comes out of chaos

By Christos Archos, astrologer and founder of the Institute of Astrology

A deep partial lunar eclipse in the fifth degree of Pisces, with Uranus squaring it and Mars moving in to meet Saturn. It presses, it unsettles, and at the same time it liberates.

THE SHORT VERSION

The partial lunar eclipse falls on 28 August 2026 at 4 degrees and 54 minutes of Pisces. Its influence runs roughly one month and twenty days, which carries it into the middle of October.

Directly affected are the 3rd to 8th degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, with the sharpest point at the 5th, 6th and 7th degrees. Indirectly affected are the 19th to 21st degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

The hardest days are 27, 28 and 29 August, with a second wave through 4 and 5 September. This is an eclipse of separations, breakdowns and sudden reversals, and equally an eclipse of release from people and situations that have been holding you back.

What this eclipse actually is

We have a partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Pisces on 28 August 2026. The exact opposition of Sun and Moon occurs at 04:18 universal time, which is 07:18 in Athens. The position is 4 degrees and 54 minutes of Pisces, so in practice the fifth degree.

This is a very deep partial eclipse. The Moon passes almost entirely into the Earth’s shadow, so visually it will look close to a total. Precise timings for your own location are available at timeanddate.com.

The influence lasts about one month and twenty days. We start from 28 August, run through 28 September with certainty, and reach around 18 October before the chapter fully closes. An eclipse does not wait for its own date to act, though. The first pressure is visible from the middle of August, the difficult stretch begins near 21 August and peaks on 27, 28 and 29, with a tail through 4 and 5 September.

THE TIMELINE

15 August: the field starts charging and the atmosphere turns tense.

21 August: we enter the zone of influence and the first difficulties appear.

27, 28 and 29 August: the peak. The most demanding days of the whole month.

4 and 5 September: a second wave of tension, after which the picture clears.

Around 3 October: thirty six days later, a fresh wave of difficulty mainly in relationships.

Mid October: the influence runs out and the cycle closes.

Who this eclipse really touches

The eclipse lands in the fifth degree of Pisces. With normal limits of influence it covers the 3rd through the 8th degree of the mutable signs. That means anyone born in the first decan of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces is directly involved. The hottest point, where the real action happens, is the 5th, 6th and 7th degree.

There is a second group. Through the eighth harmonic, the fifth degree of Pisces activates the 19th, 20th and 21st degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. In practice that is the end of the second decan and the first days of the third.

And there is a third group, which the eclipse itself does not reach but the Mars to Saturn square does, and that square forms during the same days. Here we are looking at the 9th through 15th degrees of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Direct influence

3rd to 8th degree

Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces. First decan. Strongest at the 5th, 6th and 7th degree.

Indirect, eighth harmonic

19th to 21st degree

Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. End of second decan and start of third.

Mars square Saturn

9th to 15th degree

Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn. Second decan.

Not all house cusps count the same. If the eclipse falls on the cusp of the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house, meaning the Ascendant, the Nadir, the Descendant or the Midheaven, then yes, you will feel it clearly. If it falls in a succedent or cadent house, the story is far milder.

And watch the Ascendant. The Ascendant carries the most weight of all. I have seen dozens of people convinced they were suffering because of their Sun sign when the hit was actually coming from the Ascendant. Always blend Ascendant, Moon and Sun before drawing conclusions. Sweeping statements about one sign being shattered help nobody.

The Uranus square: the signature of this eclipse

The Sun and Mercury sit together in Virgo and oppose the Moon in Pisces. So far, a textbook lunar eclipse. What changes everything is that the entire configuration is squared by Uranus.

Uranus does not give notice. The element of the unexpected is heavily activated here. Sudden events that throw you off schedule, tension you did not see coming, an attempt to sidestep difficult matters that ends up failing. In practical terms we should expect persistent disruption and a real difficulty in getting organised.

On the material level this translates very specifically. Breakdowns of machines, at home and in the car. Power supply problems. Short circuits. Internet and technology issues. Sudden disruption to travel. Uranus also makes a difficult aspect to Venus, which reinforces problems in personal relationships and, where Venus connects to finances, brings monetary turbulence too.

This is exactly why it is considered an eclipse of separations, of distancing and of difficulty. I do not say that to frighten anyone. I say it because someone who knows what is coming handles it far better than someone who takes it on the chin without warning.

Mars square Saturn: the real problem

If you asked me what the heaviest piece of this period is, I would not say the eclipse. I would say the square between Mars and Saturn.

Mars is at the 10th to 11th degree of Cancer. Saturn is retrograde at the 14th degree of Aries. They are moving toward each other, and the meeting happens right inside the eclipse window. This creates an entirely separate group of people who are untouched by the eclipse itself yet seriously pressured by this square.

Mars square Saturn produces blockage. Effort that does not pay off. Serious communication problems with other people. Exhaustion, persistent obstacles and irritation with no outlet. It also produces, unfortunately, a tendency toward accidents.

In practice, by sign, for the 9th to 15th degree

Aries: heavy difficulty around personal achievement, constant obstacles, deep fatigue.

Cancer: problems in career matters.

Libra: distancing at work and in personal relationships.

Capricorn: serious matters inside the home or problems with your personal contacts.

Let me say it plainly. Do not drive after drinking. Nobody should, but if you are an Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn born at the start of the second decan, you especially. The same goes for anyone with placements in the 3rd to 8th degree. The accident tendencies during that stretch are real and not worth testing.

Mars and Pluto out of bounds

Going a level deeper, Mars in Cancer is out of bounds. Pluto is also out of bounds. That means the two planets form a contraparallel in out of bounds territory, which links them in a field where the usual rules of restraint do not apply.

I do not want to create illusions here. Mars with Pluto in this arrangement brings serious incidents of violence in the world, with heavy matters surfacing. I am concerned about strange killings and crimes of passion. In mundane terms this is a violent eclipse and it is better that we know it. The declination work behind this reading belongs to the Eosphoric Dimension, which treats out of bounds placements as a separate coordinate system rather than a footnote.

The safety valve: Jupiter trine Saturn

Fortunately not everything is dark. Jupiter is at 12 degrees and 53 minutes of Leo, Saturn at 13 degrees and 53 minutes of Aries. That is a trine with exactly one degree of separation, so effectively perfect.

This trine protects. It stops things from running away entirely and prevents the disturbance from escalating further. There is a second, more technical point. In traditional terms of motion, Saturn is trying to reach Jupiter, but Mars will get there first. Jupiter sits precisely in the space between the degrees of Mars and Saturn, and that placement works in our favour. It does not remove the tension, but it puts a ceiling on it.

Saros 138 and what it carries

Every eclipse belongs to a family. This one belongs to cycle 138, which began on 15 October 1521. The chart of that first eclipse functions as a birth chart for the entire series and sets its character.

There we find the Moon in trine to Pluto and the Sun in sextile to Pluto, which brings questions of control sharply to the surface. The heaviest element, though, is that the Sun and the Moon, while forming their opposition, are simultaneously squared by Saturn.

That makes the series radical. It is a cycle that produces emotional distancing. It wakes difficult feelings, it wakes old business, and above all it wakes fears and insecurities. This is not the easiest material, and anyone with a personal planet on those degrees will feel it.

Logic against feeling

Every lunar eclipse on the Virgo and Pisces axis sets up the same internal fight. On one side Virgo hosts the Sun and Mercury together, which is logic, analysis and the need to put things in order. On the other side the Moon in Pisces, which is feeling that cannot be measured or explained.

And on top of that fight, Uranus arrives and squares. I expect large collisions, tension and misunderstanding. People speaking two different languages without realising it. One asks for arguments, the other asks for understanding, and neither gives the other what is needed.

The psychological core: love without boundaries

Here is the real lesson of this eclipse, and I want to sit with it a little longer.

The Moon in Pisces has one basic tendency. It wants to lose its boundaries. I give my love without limits and I expect the other person to appreciate it. Very often, though, we see that this love produces no result at all. Worse, we see that it can create people with a great many problems.

Love without a proper frame, love that says yes to everything and translates all of itself into offering and sacrifice, is the first thing to generate thousands of problems. We say this constantly to parents. Yes, you must love your children and care for them, and love is the first therapeutic ingredient. But love is one thing, and a child who does whatever it wants because love is supposedly always limitless is another.

Even maternal love needs boundaries, hierarchy and a specific structure. This holds in any system and in any relationship. Otherwise boundaries dissolve, excess appears, and what follows is emotional dependency and emotional fusion. We want to become one with the other person. That fusion creates attachment problems, because when we cling to someone we do not let them grow, develop and stand on their own feet.

So the eclipse asks you something very simple. How well do you look after yourself, how well do you protect yourself, and where exactly do you place the line. We can pull back emotionally from people when they are toxic. What we do not need to do is go cold on people simply because we cannot bear to handle the emotional frame. Feeling should not be burned at both ends. I express it, but I do not drown the other person in it.

The liberating side, because there is one

Nothing is ever permanently black and nothing is ever permanently white. This eclipse, for all its disturbance and intensity, is at the same time deeply liberating.

Those of you currently in a genuinely pressured period will get the chance to push off things that have worn you down and people who have been truly toxic. You will close a few mouths. You will organise your life better. You will finally say that I am making this new start and putting some parts of my daily life in order.

This is a phase of creation. It is a phase of achievement. Above all it is a phase where you feel your life is turning toward something better, because you are building the frame inside which you will develop. Think of it as a storm that is necessary before anything else can happen.

There is also a second midpoint activation worth noting. Beyond Uranus alone, the combination of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto is mobilised. That points to spiritual and inner awakening. Through the difficulties themselves, people will find answers to things they have been waiting on for a long time.

The key word for this whole stretch is one: differentiate. We are being called to say what we actually want from our own lives, to stop following other people’s instructions and to stop being defined by their convictions. Those of you who have genuinely fought for something will get the chance to complete it, provided you dare to differentiate.

On the world stage

Globally we should expect flare ups in hot regions with sudden military episodes, tension in relations between states that could open a new front, accidents and incidents, and a broad rise in pressure.

I also consider the probability of geophysical events to be high, since we are dealing with one of the most difficult configurations of the year. Let us hope it manifests somewhere that is not densely populated. It is worth remembering that a lunar eclipse does not on its own produce enormous disasters. Solar eclipses are the ones that, when difficult, lead to genuinely heavy outcomes. A lunar eclipse brings an atmosphere of disturbance and pressure on many levels.

Geographical intensity

The eclipse reads as clearly stronger for Southeast Asia, Australia, Siberia, China, Mongolia, Japan, India, Spain, Afghanistan, eastern Kazakhstan and the eastern and central Turkic republics. Greece is not much affected by its line, so conditions there are relatively easier. If you live in one of those regions and also carry placements on the degrees named above, more caution is warranted.

There is another side to it. This eclipse favours significant technological developments and scientific news capable of solving problems that have occupied humanity for years. It particularly favours advances in transport and technology. On a personal level it is excellent for a new acquaintance, a new relationship, and for coming back to life through ideas.

One practical note. If you are planning to travel, avoid 28 August as a departure day. Go slightly earlier or slightly later.

Forecasts for the twelve signs by decan

Not all fish are the same fish. The Pisces of the first decan carries a different fate from the second, and the second from the third. The same holds for every sign. Find your decan and read your own section, not the generic one.

How to find your decan: the first ten days of your sign are the first decan, the next ten the second, and the last ten the third. For Aries, 21 to 31 March is the first, 1 to 10 April the second, and 11 to 20 April the third. For a day by day picture of how these transits land on your own chart, see the daily horoscope with personalised prediction.

  Aries

First decan. You may feel that illusions are in play or that it is hard to see reality clearly. The eclipse disturbs your daily routine and matters at work, so you will need care in protecting yourself from toxic situations. Some backstabbing could spoil your mood. On the other side, interesting travel opportunities open up, while a sudden acquaintance, contact or contract will help your life start turning for the better. There are also real openings around groups and new friendships you have been waiting on.

Second decan. You will have a hard time on the work front, while inside the home there could be serious damage or a hit to your mood. Watch for minor accidents while travelling. On the other hand, late August and September are an excellent window for a new romantic connection, for falling in love, for becoming very creative, and for growing closer to your children or conceiving. A renewing period and one of real progress, despite the setbacks.

Third decan. No particular influence. Only those born in the first two days, on the 20th and 21st degree, will see some reversals and possible difficulty in personal relationships. The rest of you will experience relative calm.

  Taurus

First decan. You are entering a healing phase. There may be financial losses that need sorting out, while money spent on children could take you over budget. At the same time the eclipse pushes you toward a new romantic connection or toward meeting someone who renews you. Professional prospects are working very well and you will get back on top.

Second decan. You may be low psychologically and feel that certain things are not going well, while conflict could arise with beloved family members or difficulty with siblings and your own people. The positive side is that your professional path goes very well and a significant new opportunity arrives to renew you.

Third decan. Almost untouched. This eclipse is entirely indifferent to you. You will have pleasant openings in daily life and will feel that things at work are starting to run better.

  Gemini

First decan. You are directly affected by Uranus. Sudden events could unsettle you and throw you off schedule. There will be significant disturbance inside the home and you will make serious changes at work. At the same time this is a period of real experience and success in studies, with recognition through travel. Life becomes far more adventurous. Turbulence at home and in your peace of mind, then, but genuine wins in study and travel.

Second decan. Significant expenses are coming that will dent your mood, while certain friends may not be worth as much as you thought and the relationship will need redefining. On the other hand this is a period for beautiful travel and for new beginnings. A rare moment to secure goals you have wanted for a long time. This is the hour of your own creativity.

Third decan. Not particularly affected. The upside is that sudden attractions and romantic conquests could sweep you up after 28 August, lifting your spirits and making daily life considerably more interesting.

  Cancer

First decan. You feel that professionally you have not yet found your road or your identity. There is heightened pressure in daily life and possible difficulty with your psychological state or with travel. On the other side this is an excellent period for bringing in money through third parties, with openings for investment and new financial possibilities. A very creative stretch for solving long standing work issues.

Second decan. You are under more pressure, especially those born between 3 and 7 July, because you sit right on the Mars to Saturn square. Watch for sudden accidents, pressure at work and communication problems with your own people. Any accidents are not expected to be serious. At the same time this is an excellent moment for raising your income, and you enter a phase of steadily achieving financial and business goals.

Third decan. Barely affected. What matters is that the eclipse grants you a gradual new start at work, though it comes through pressure. Those born near 13 and 14 July may experience disruption in work matters, which you will get past before taking a long breath.

  Leo

First decan. You have financial problems to manage, and from 28 August onward the eclipse creates monetary difficulty or strain. On the other side your romantic life is enriched and you feel considerably better. You realise goals, you socialise, and you meet new people and new situations.

Second decan. You are the ones with luck on your side. During the eclipse period you can achieve very significant things, with new prospects, opportunities and possibilities. This is a stretch that lets you move more and more dynamically. Some delay to goals or the odd backstabbing may appear, but you have read the situation correctly and you will hit your targets.

Third decan. Not particularly affected, and things move fairly loosely. The period has you flirting more, feeling better and getting away from work situations that had been weighing on you. You are resting more than you are straining. Note, though, that the Node is moving into your decan, which will bring developments later.

  Virgo

First decan. You are directly affected. The eclipse lands on the heart of events, right where the most significant developments happen. Expect reversals in personal relationships and a sorting of who genuinely deserves to stand beside you, particularly in professional matters. You will live through disruption, and financially you may find you lose some money. This is not a quiet period. If, however, you want to free yourself from difficult people or start a relationship that renews you, this is the right window. We move to something new because the old is dissolving. Note also that Uranus is bringing you career changes across the next two years.

Second decan. You may face disappointment in financial matters and some allies could walk away. Even so, help will arrive from a direction you did not expect, while certain secrets come to light and work in your favour professionally. You now find the courage to organise better and reach your goals.

Third decan. Beyond modest financial growth, this is a stretch where you rest. The difficulty and pressure that had exhausted you is thankfully finished. From here on, things move only toward something better and more creative.

  Libra

First decan. You may feel a fog settling over your personal affairs and you will need to protect yourself from illusions. There are significant positive developments, though, around dreams becoming reality, and that will lift you considerably. Watch for overwork, while your job may carry heightened pressure. Be alert to backstabbing from hidden opponents.

Second decan. You take a real beating from the Saturn to Mars square. Especially those born between 3 and 6 October, things are very difficult, with sudden setbacks, problems in personal relationships, obstacles at work and disappointment. The good news is that friends and allies will step up to support your dreams. The moment carries major disruption and you need to look after yourself.

Third decan. You may make a fated acquaintance or begin a fated relationship. Money will come in, but it will leave as fast as it arrives. The influence is relatively small and manageable, so matters stay in your hands.

  Scorpio

First decan. You feel your financial choices are finally starting to improve. You could also be expecting a fated attraction that sweeps you up, possibly even a sudden pregnancy. This is the moment of your own victory and recognition. At work new prospects appear alongside a few things that will slow you down, while people in your wider circle of friends could create problems.

Second decan. Expect a fair number of problems at work and disappointment in daily matters. Some of your plans may be cancelled. Even so, your professional life is heading toward larger and larger successes and you will come out on top. You are pressured, you are worn down, but things will work out considerably better.

Third decan. No problems at all, but no astonishing prospect either. A hidden attraction or a secret admirer might knock at your door. Your daily life stays out of this eclipse’s line of fire.

  Sagittarius

First decan. The period ahead is a hard one. There are relocations, which you may actually want, changes at home, a possible separation but equally a new acquaintance and relationship. A change at work arrives along with sudden expenses in the home. Money will go on matters of house and base. On the other side this is a thrilling period that will astonish you with its new prospects, and you will do creative things that make you smile.

Second decan. You may find yourself in a new relationship with a distinctly difficult character. This is not a good period for new relationships. You start something, but it is problematic. My suggestion is to travel and enjoy yourself after 28 August, because that is when your mood improves. It is a moment that forces you to develop, and generally you will feel life starting to smile at you again.

Third decan. Not affected at all. Small things only. Perhaps a flirtation with a friend or an introduction through your wider circle, but nothing significant enough to change the picture.

  Capricorn

First decan. You could face difficulty regarding your home, with a blurred picture around household matters. Travel and studies may bring delays or cancellations. The good news is that professionally there are real openings for something new, while a relationship with a particularly sweet character could develop and make you happy.

Second decan. Especially those born between 1 and 4 January, take great care with damage inside the home, misunderstandings with family and conflict with your partner. This stretch is particularly toxic and difficult, and patience will be required. The positive side is that your investments and finances will go very well, with steady recovery and growth.

Third decan. A relatively indifferent period, apart from the first two days, 11 and 12 January, where you might feel some disruption through delays in studies and travel. There will also be good chances to advance your professional plans. The damage is minor.

  Aquarius

First decan. You will have significant financial losses and difficulty, possibly because of a child or some creative obligation. Your finances sit at their lowest throughout September and the eclipse strikes exactly that area. On the other side there are real prospects for a new acquaintance or relationship that could sweep you up. Matters of childbearing are also favoured. This is a period that lets you finally change things at work or in your career.

Second decan. Work looks somewhat difficult, while travel calls for care so you avoid minor accidents. Even so, this is a period where personal relationships go wonderfully. A new attraction will leave you feeling extraordinarily creative, while a new collaboration could make you smile despite the communication difficulties around you.

Third decan. Barely affected. You will have pleasant moments through travel, and on one of those trips you might make a romantic connection that gives you a very good time.

  Pisces

First decan. You are pressured directly by the eclipse. Crises in personal relationships, communication problems, issues at home and at work. Sudden events will shock you and your schedule will not hold. Make sure you are as well rested as possible. Things start moving in your favour if you try something new professionally or close a new agreement. Important: Uranus is falling on your fourth house and will not leave you alone. We are looking at two years of escalating tension around home, work and base.

Second decan. You take a heavy hit on financial difficulty. Your romantic partner will be one of the reasons finances go slightly wrong, while matters concerning children also strain your pocket. A period of monetary turbulence. There are openings, though, to become passionate and to fall in love, while those of you without work could find a job.

Third decan. Not affected at all. What you can expect is improvement in investment matters. Your morale lifts and you feel better professionally. Paradoxically, this eclipse does a great deal for your mood toward the end of August.

What comes after the eclipse

It does not end here, and I would rather you knew that now. Thirty six days after the eclipse a fresh set of issues begins, mainly in relationships. We are entering a period that escalates pressure rather than releasing it.

Three personal planets then turn retrograde. Mercury and Venus go retrograde across October and November, and Mars follows in January 2027. Practically speaking, from September through to around April 2027 there is still some rough ground. We said from the start that we have to reach April 2027 before we can call it settled.

That does not mean everything is a disaster. It means we are in a period of tense conditions and that preparation counts for more than usual. There are signs that do genuinely remarkable things across August and September, including some of the ones taking the difficult side of this eclipse. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces of the first decan, alongside the hard material, hold strong potential for success thanks to the rest of the planetary picture. You can see how the wider month sits in Zodiac Signs August 2026, and follow the lunations through the New and Full Moon forecasts.

Frequently asked questions

What time is the lunar eclipse in Pisces?

On 28 August 2026 at 04:18 universal time, which is 07:18 in Athens. The position is 4 degrees and 54 minutes of Pisces.

How long does its influence last?

Roughly one month and twenty days. It becomes noticeable a week before, around 21 August, peaks between 27 and 29 August, and fades out toward the middle of October.

Which signs are most affected?

Directly, the first decan of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, meaning the 3rd to 8th degree, strongest at the 5th, 6th and 7th. Indirectly, the 19th to 21st degree of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn, while the Mars to Saturn square presses the 9th to 15th degree of those same signs.

Is this eclipse dangerous?

It is intense and demanding, but manageable. Lunar eclipses do not by themselves produce large scale disaster. They bring disruption, separations, breakdowns and sudden change. At the same time they open genuine opportunities for release and for new beginnings.

Is there anything specific I should avoid?

Avoid 28 August as a day for travel or for starting a holiday. Take care on the road, particularly if you have placements in the 9th to 15th degree of the cardinal signs. And do not make final decisions about relationships at the peak of the tension. Let a few days pass first.
